Put the kettle on, take a comfy seat and let me introduce you to this week's romantic vintage edit that have just landed on the website!
I firmly believe that you don't need an 'occasion' to don your favourite romantic vintage outfit (I repeat it so often, this could be the shop motto!) In fact, I think it works the other way around: you MAKE a day or a moment special by putting on something that makes you FEEL special. And as it happens - if you're looking for that magical something to make you feel like you've just stepped out of Wuthering Heights, you have landed on the right page. Some of my latest Italian finds are slowly but surely making their way to the listings, so if you'd like to meet some of them, read on!
I simply have to open with this gem - an incredible, floor length vintage cotton peignoir entirely worked in broderie anglaise. A standout piece that is ideal for a bride but also, as I mentioned, for any moment where you want to time travel in luxury. This dressing gown is a triumph of romantic details: from its wide balloon sleeves decorated with ribbons to the flouncy skirt, from its sweet Peter Pan collar to the satin ribbon neck tie...it's all to discover and to enjoy. Window seat, candle light and Heathcliff are optional!
Gingham (also known in continental Europe as vichy print) is another romantic timeless classic that I cannot get enough of, particularly when it's baby blue! This is why I adore this beautiful 1970s Italian floor length dress with adjustable neckline: depending on your mood you can wear it traditionally or off the shoulder! It comes with sweet puff sleeves and white lace trim.
Staying with the off-the-shoulder theme, this week I also have a beautiful vintage Austrian Trachten top in soft flannellette to keep you cosy, with 100% Linen sleeves in broderie anglaise!
I love coming across antique pieces with a history, and that is certainly the case with this romantic Victorian pure cotton gown, beautifully decorated in broderie anglaise at the sleeves and neckline. I love how age has left its marks on this piece, see for example the clever repair at the neckline, incorporated in the design. The organic cotton fabric of this piece is so cooling and wonderful to the touch - one to take out of the wardrobe summer after summer, whether you decide to wear it cinched in or loose. And here's an idea: if the odd little age marks on the gown bothered you, you could also turn this into a project and turn it into a gorgeous antique top!
If you're looking for something more 1960s in vibe yet all quintessentially romantic, look no further than this fabulous Italian long sleeve romantic dress with floral lace bodice! Crisp and barely ever worn, this piece would look adorable worn throughout autumn/winter with a pair of patent Mary Janes and contrast red tights when it gets a little bit colder!
Like gingham, another classic romantic print is polka dot: this 1970s dreamy vintage sundress ticks all the boxes for me with its timeless design, midi length, comfy loose fit and adorable embroidered contrast bib detail with ribbon running up along the straps. So easy to wear, this could also be a fantastic Maternity dress that you can use before, during and after your pregnancy!
And finally, time to relax at the end of a long day in the perfect vintage robe - that can only be 100% Pure Silk! This candy pink gem (I'm going to say it...very Barbie!) is in perfect condition and comes with its own belt, front pockets and gorgeous embroidery on its rounded lapels.
